# Day & Note

> A free desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux that gives you a structured, easy way to manage your days and go back to them. Each day is one page with your Google Calendar meetings, tasks and notes, split by project. Notes stay in a folder on your computer, with no account and no internet needed, or sync across devices end-to-end encrypted. Currently in alpha.

Most people plan a day across a calendar, a task app and a few note apps, lose tasks in last week's meeting notes, and rebuild the task list from memory every morning. Day & Note puts the whole day on one page and carries over what you didn't finish.

## Every day is a page

The date is the headline. Meetings sit at the top, then your tasks, and the rest of the page is yours to write in. Past days stay exactly as you left them, so you can always go back to what happened: ⌘[ and ⌘] step through days, and ⌘T jumps to today.

- **Meetings:** your Google Calendar fills each day with its meetings, each with a notes page ready before the call. Access is read-only; nothing is written back to Google.
- **Tasks:** one kind of task. ⌘⇧A turns the line you're on into a task, tagged with the meeting it came from. ⌘. opens a quick bar on any task: next day, next week, size, project, sub-task, pin. Drag a task to the bottom of the window to move it to another day or project.
- **Now line:** start a task with ▶ (or ⌥↵) and a Now line under the date shows its timer and worked time against its size, with Pause, Switch task and Done. It pauses itself for meetings, sleep and quit.
- **Carry-over:** tasks you didn't finish wait on today under "From earlier", with the day they came from and their sub-items. One click brings them all over.
- **Projects:** one day, split by project. Each project has a colour, its own notes per day, and sub-projects for clients with several apps. Switch tabs to see one project, or All for everything.
- **Day plan:** tasks and meetings share one timeline from 6 AM to midnight. Tasks without a time wait in a tray; drag one onto the timeline, or Fill my day puts the rest into the free gaps.
- **Project pages and Kit:** a page per project for what outlives a single day, plus a Kit of links, keys, commands and .env files, each copied with one click, with Dev, QA and Prod marked. An empty Kit explains itself, the add field shows what it spotted before you save, and secrets can be copied for 30 seconds with a draining outline.
- **Images:** paste or drop screenshots into any note. They're resized on your device, stripped of location data and encrypted.
- **Search:** ⌘K searches meetings, notes and tasks across every day. It runs on your device, so it works with encryption.

## More

- **Quick add:** ⌃⌘Space in any app opens a small panel; type a task, add a note, and it's on today.
- **Dock:** pin up to six projects, tasks or meetings to a floating dock.
- **Floating note:** keep yesterday, or any day, in a small card while you work on today.
- **Full-screen focus** for meeting notes or the day's writing.
- **Markdown that formats itself:** paste Markdown and get headings, lists and checkboxes.
- **Keyboard first:** every list ends in an input and Enter saves; every shortcut can be changed.
- **Light and dark**, following your system.
- **Updates itself** with signed updates.

## Private by default: your notes, where you choose

Your notes live in one of two places, and you can switch any time without losing anything.

**On your computer (the default).** Your days are saved in a folder, `~/Day & Note`: one database file, your images and a backup from each of the last 7 days.

- No account: no email, no passphrase. Download it and start.
- No internet needed: write, plan and search with no connection.
- Nothing you write goes to our servers.
- It's a normal folder: copy it, move it or back it up like any other.

**Cloud sync.** For every device. Everything you write is end-to-end encrypted on your computer with XChaCha20-Poly1305 before it syncs, and the server only stores ciphertext. Your passphrase never leaves the device, so nobody else can read your days, including us.

- **The server never sees:** notes and meeting notes, images, tasks, meeting titles and project names, links, secrets and .env files.
- **The server still sees:** dates and times, project colours and done flags, how many items there are (not what they say), and your account email.
- Lose both your passphrase and your recovery code and the data is gone for good; there is no back door.
- The app has no analytics and no ads.
